Junior Chefs of America Children Cook-Off FAQ’s

What is the physical address that Cook-Off will take place at?

The event will be held in Ybor City, Centennial Park, 1800 E. 8th Avenue, 33605

What is the cancellation policy at JCOA?

When you reserve a spot in our cooking classes full payment is required at the time the registration is made.

If you cancel at least 30 days prior to the start of class we will charge a $50 cancellation fee and refund the balance to you.

If you cancel at least 30 -7 days of your scheduled class, we will charge a $50 cancellation fee and the remaining balance will be applied as a credit to any future classes we offer.

If you cancel at within 1- 6 days of your scheduled class, no refunds, transfers  gift cards, or credits will the issues for cancellation. While it is not in our nature to say no, we are not able to offer credit, transfers or refunds for last-minute illnesses or work-related conflicts, personal emergencies, or even events beyond our control. However, you’re always welcome to send someone in your place because we understand these things happen.

If we cancel the class due to low enrollment, all payments and deposit will be refunded in full.

What are the dates and times that the Cook-Off will be open to the public?

Sunday, September 4, 2016 from 12 noon til 5pm.

Can I bring my pet to the festival?

Yes, this event is held outside and will be a family-oriented event, your pet will fit right in!

Can I buy food and drinks at Cook-Off or is it strictly a Cuban Sandwich competition?

Some Jr. Chef teams will also be selling food items of their choice as a Food Vendor. There will also be variety of vendors will also be on hand selling a wide range of food and drink items.

Will there be alcoholic drinks sold at JCOA COOK-OFF

This is a kid-friendly event, no alcoholic beverages will be sold or allowed at the event.

Will there be live entertainment on hand?

Yes, the board of directors have dedicated many hours into making sure that the JCOA COOK-OFF has some of the best entertainment. There will be live performances, live bands and motivational speakers.

So many festivals have extremely limited restroom facilities and sanitizing stations, will this be the case at JCOA COOK-OFF?

No, JCOA will have available restrooms for both genders on site

What are the ages of the Junior Chefs?

Junior Chefs will range from the age of 4 – 17. Children will compete according to appropriate age group.

What is the cost to participate?

The cost to participate is a $50. This fee is a non-refundable donation to our school.

What time does the competition start?

Competition will began at 2pm. Junior Chefs will arrive at 11:00 to check-in. All food will be prepared on-site. Bring appropriate supplies like ice chests to keep salads cold, or burners to keep salad warm if needed.

How many people can assist children in booth?

There can be up to 2 additional Team members per child. There must be at least one(1) Adult Supervisor with each child.

Will food items be provided?

All food preparation items along with condiments, garnishes, and side dishes will be provided by the Jr. Chef.

How much food will be needed?

Each Jr. Chef will a 2-3 oz taste portion for four(4) Judges. There will be four(4) judges that will taste a small portion of each salad.

How will Junior Chefs be selected as Top Junior Chef Of America?

There will be four age groups where children will be placed accordingly. Each age group will present their final dish to judges at appropriate time. Judges will give points in Four (4) areas: Taste, Appearance, Originality.

Each Judge will taste and rate each Salad on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being excellent. All scores will be tallied up and there will only be ONE winner per age category. If there are only One(1) child in that age category, that child will be placed with the next highest age group.

Will there be other types of Vendors at the event?

Yes, there will be a Food Vendors, Kid Friendly Vendprs, Educational Learning Booths, Clowns, and other fun activities for children. The cost to become a Vendor depends on the type of company. Click Here For Vendor Application.
